Guard the Ground God Has Given You

Scripture Foundation

  • 1 Peter 5:8 – “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.”
  • Revelation 12:11 – “They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony and they did not love their lives to the death.

Introduction

Beloved, as we journey through this season of consecration, we are walking through the fire of God’s refining process. God is exposing what has been hidden—attitudes, habits, and attachments that cannot remain if we are to walk in the freedom and purity required for the next level.

Remember this: whenever God begins to advance you into greater spiritual territory, the enemy resists. He will not surrender ground he once occupied in your life without a fight. This is WAR! As God brings things to the surface to remove them, the enemy will attempt to reclaim those areas. That is why it is critical in this season to guard the ground God has given you.

  1. Expect Resistance from the Enemy (1 Peter 5:8)

When you press deeper into God—through fasting, prayer, or consecration—the enemy reacts.

His attacks may take different forms:

a) Increased Temptation in Old Weaknesses

  • The enemy often reintroduces past sins or habits we’ve overcome: sexual temptation, past lovers try to reconnect, anger, gossip, addictions like gluttony or old habits e.g. wasting time on social media or urges to play video games.
  • Luke 4:1-13 – Even Jesus was tempted by Satan during His fast

b) Mental and Emotional Warfare

  • Sudden heaviness, discouragement, confusion, fear, condemnation, or negative thoughts e.g. thoughts that lead to depression, suicide, rehashing of old wounds and trauma, regrets and disappointment.
  • After such a mighty breakthrough against the false prophets of Baal, even Elijah became afraid, sank into despair and became almost suicidal. He prayed: “It is enough! Now, LORD, take my life, for I am no better than my ancestors.” (1 Kings 19:4)

c) Dream Attacks / Night Warfare

  • Strange dreams of eating, sexual encounters, being pursued, fighting, or sleep paralysis etc.
  • The devil attacks our dreams so that he can reinitiate demonic covenants and contracts that are torn down through repentance, he also plants tares and steals what God has given us like our virtue and fire
  • Matthew 13:25 – “While men slept, the enemy came and sowed tares.”

d)Relational Conflicts & Offenses

  • Close friends, family, or church members may suddenly “turn” on you as the devil uses them to gain access to your heart and peace. Forgive them quickly so you do not give place/advantage to the devil.
  • Ephesians 4:26“Be angry, and do not sin: do not let the sun go down on your wrath, nor give place to the devil.”
  • 2 Corinthians 2:10-11—“But whom ye forgive, I also forgive. For if I forgave any thing, to whom I forgave it, for your sakes forgave I in the person of Christ;Lest Satan should get an advantage of us: for we are not ignorant of his devices.”

e)  Accusations, Lies & Slander

  • Sudden eruptions of Gossip, false reports, misunderstandings begin to surface to take you out of the spirit and into the flesh.
  • Revelation 12:10 – Remember, Satan is the accuser of the brethren not the people he is using to accuse you. Stay focused.

f) Physical Attacks or Weakness

  • Sudden fatigue, prolonged illness, migraines, stomach issues, or unexplained weakness to hinder fasting and prayer.

Daniel 7:25 – The enemy’s goal is to “wear out the saints of the Most High.”

g) Financial / Practical Disruptions

  • Unexpected bills, car breakdowns, job stress, or money shortages—designed to pull your focus from God as you worry over the cares of life.
  • The devil isn’t after your money; he is after your momentum! Discern the goal behind the attack.

h) Heightened Fleshly Irritations

  • Impatience, irritability, quick anger are natural reactions of a rebellious flesh.
  • Galatians 5:17 – The flesh resists crucifixion by God.
  • Understanding this truth helps you to recognise the flesh and crucify it quickly without feeling condemned.

i) Sudden Doubt & Spiritual Dryness

  • Feelings that your prayers aren’t working, no visions, or a sense of being stuck.
  • The devil is a liar (John 8:44)  who uses our feelings to erode our faith.

j) Distractions & Busyness

  • Phone calls, emergencies, tasks,  or even blessings that pull you from prayer and the word.
  • The word distraction means to be pulled in different directions to “break traction”. The devil is not only after your momentum, he is after your divine timing as he seeks to make you waste the limited time you have to get prepared for God’s next.

  Martha – Distracted by serving
Luke 10:40-42 – “But Martha was distracted with much serving… But the Lord answered her, ‘Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary.’”
She was distracted from sitting at Jesus’ feet like Mary.

The Rich Young Ruler – Distracted by possessions
Mark 10:21-22 – Jesus told him to sell all and follow Him, but he walked away sorrowful because he was attached to his wealth.
His distraction with riches kept him from eternal life.

  • We must be like Nehemiah: Nehemiah 6:3 – “I am doing a great work and cannot come down.

k) Complacency:

  • Feeling you have “arrived” so you become careless which leads to lost momentum leaving you open to attacks.

David’s Example

David’s Story: Victory, Then Attack
We see this with David in 1 Samuel 30. After experiencing great victories, David and his men returned to Ziklag, only to find devastation. The Amalekites had invaded, burned the city, and carried away their wives, children, and possessions.

The same David who had just walked in triumph was now facing tears, grief, and the threat of his own men turning on him. The enemy struck when they least expected it — right after victory.

This teaches us: the enemy often counterattacks after breakthrough. But if we guard the ground, seek God, and stand in His strength, we will recover all that the enemy tries to steal.

In 2 Samuel 10, David’s army had just won a great victory over the Ammonites and the Syrians. But in 2 Samuel 11, David let down his guard. Instead of being on the battlefield, he remained in Jerusalem. The enemy struck—David fell into lust with Bathsheba and deeper sin of a cover up murder followed.

Lesson: After breakthrough comes temptation; Guard your heart after victory as much as during the fight.

BATTLE PLAN

Revelation 12:11:

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.”

Here’s what it means 👇 we overcome

🔴 “By the blood of the Lamb”

A. This refers to understanding all that the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross accomplished for you.

WHAT DID THE BLOOD OF JESUS ACCOMPLISH FOR YOU?

  1. Forgiveness of Sins

Jesus’ blood was shed to wash away sin and bring forgiveness.

  • “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace.”Ephesians 1:7
  • “Without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.”Hebrews 9:22
  1. Reconciliation with God

His death removed the barrier of sin and restored relationship with the Father.

  • “Once you were alienated from God and were enemies… But now he has reconciled you by Christ’s physical body through death to present you holy in his sight.”Colossians 1:21–22
  • “God was in Christ reconciling the world to Himself, not counting their trespasses against them.”2 Corinthians 5:19
  1. Justification (Declared Righteous)

Through His sacrifice, believers are declared righteous before God.

  • “Since we have been justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.”Romans 5:9
  • “He made him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in him.”2 Corinthians 5:21
  1. Victory Over Satan and the Powers of Darkness

The cross defeated the enemy and stripped him of authority.

  • “Having disarmed principalities and powers, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.”Colossians 2:15
  • “Since the children have flesh and blood, he too shared in their humanity so that by his death he might break the power of him who holds the power of death—that is, the devil.”Hebrews 2:14
  1. Freedom from the Curse and Law of Sin & Death

Christ bore the curse of sin so we could be free.

  • “Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law by becoming a curse for us.”Galatians 3:13
  • “There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus… For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death.”Romans 8:1–2
  1. Peace with God

Through His death, believers are no longer at war with God but have peace.

  • “Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.”Romans 5:1
  • “He himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility.”Ephesians 2:14–16
  1. Access to God

The veil was torn — now believers have direct access to God’s presence.

  • “For through him we both have access to the Father by one Spirit.”Ephesians 2:18
  • “We have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body.”Hebrews 10:19–20
  1. Eternal Life & Adoption as God’s Children

His death secured our adoption and inheritance.

  • “But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.”John 1:12
  • “The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ.”Romans 8:16–17

In Summary:
Through the cross, Jesus secured forgiveness, reconciliation, justification, victory, freedom, peace, access, and adoption. The cross wasn’t defeat — it was the greatest victory ever won.

We don’t fight for victory but we fight from the victory accomplished by the finished work of the Cross!

B. Administering the blood to your Life/ Pleading the Blood of Jesus

What it Means to Plead the Blood of Jesus

🔴 1. A Legal Term
The word plead comes from the courtroom. Just like a lawyer pleads a case before a judge, when we “plead the blood,” we are appealing to the finished work of Jesus on the cross as our defense.

  • When the enemy accuses us, instead of pleading our own goodness, we stand on the blood of Christ as our covering and victory.

🔴 2. Applying the Blood
In the Old Testament, the Israelites applied the blood of the lamb on their doorposts at Passover (Exodus 12:13), and the destroyer could not touch them. Today, when we “plead the blood,” we are spiritually applying what the blood of Jesus has done to ourselves, our families, and situations for protection, deliverance, and healing.

🔴 3. Declaring Victory
The blood of Jesus defeated sin, death, and Satan. Pleading the blood is a way of declaring that victory out loud over every sickness, attack, temptation, or fear.

In Short:

To “plead the blood” means to stand on what the blood of Jesus has accomplished — forgiveness, protection, healing, and victory — and to speak it in faith over your life.

How to Plead or Invoke the Blood of Jesus

1.Understand what the finished work of Cross has accomplished for you and then make it your possession by the word of your testimony —faith filled declarations.

You must study the scriptures on the death of Jesus and his blood. As you receive revelation then you speak over yourself.

E.g. if you are being attacked by sickness, study how the death of Jesus gave you victory over this:

 1. Isaiah’s Prophecy

  • “Surely he hath borne our griefs [Hebrew: choli = sicknesses], and carried our sorrows [makob = pains]: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”
    Isaiah 53:4–5 (KJV)

2. Fulfillment in Jesus’ Ministry

  • “That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by Esaias the prophet, saying, Himself took our infirmities, and bare our sicknesses.”
    Matthew 8:16–17

3. Healing in the Atonement

  • “Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.”
    1 Peter 2:24

Now, as you ponder on these truths ask yourself what does this mean for me? Don’t just echo the scriptures back to God, speak the reality it has made available to you.

  • Instead of saying, “My cancer is spreading,” say: “Jesus carried this sickness away on the cross. By His stripes I was healed and through his broken body I am delivered from every curse of cancer. Therefore, in the name of Jesus I forbid this cancer from staying in my body. On the basis of the blood, I command every lump to disappear, every pain to go now, every cancerous cell to die, every demonic yoke to break off of my body for I am redeemed!”

2. Take the Holy Communion as often with the Understanding that this activates every promise in the new covenant that was purchased for you by the blood of Jesus.

1 Corinthians 11:26:

“For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.”

Paul was teaching about the Lord’s Supper (Communion). Every time believers partake of the bread and cup:

  1. We remember Christ’s sacrifice — His body broken and His blood shed for us.
  2. We proclaim (declare publicly) what His death accomplished: forgiveness, healing, reconciliation, victory, peace, and eternal life.

BONUS PRAYER AGAINST DREAM ATTACKS

🌙 Dream Cancellation Prayer

Heavenly Father,
I thank You that my life is hidden with Christ in God (Colossians 3:3). Right now, I come against every polluted, evil, or manipulative dream I just had.

Your Word says in Isaiah 7:7: “It shall not stand, neither shall it come to pass.” Therefore, I decree and declare that this dream attack shall not stand, it shall not come to pass in my life in Jesus’ name.

Every evil seed planted in my sleep is uprooted, for it is written in Matthew 15:13: “Every plant which my heavenly Father has not planted shall be rooted up.” Let every demonic deposit, covenant, or manipulation in my dream be destroyed by fire in Jesus’ name.

I cancel every weapon of darkness, for Isaiah 54:17 says: “No weapon formed against me shall prosper.” Every enchantment and divination is broken, because Numbers 23:23 declares: “There is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel.”

Lord, Your Word in Job 5:12 says: “You disappoint the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.” Therefore, every evil plot and plan from this dream is frustrated and destroyed now in Jesus’ mighty name.

I command every spiritual thief, witchcraft agent, or stranger that came in the night to fade away, according to Psalm 18:44–45: “As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: the strangers shall fade away.”

Father, I claim full restoration, for You said in Joel 2:25: “I will restore to you the years that the locust has eaten.” Every blessing, virtue, or breakthrough the enemy tried to steal from me in this dream is restored sevenfold now in Jesus’ name.

Thank You, Lord Jesus, for the victory of the cross. Colossians 2:14–15 says You cancelled every record against me and disarmed principalities and powers, triumphing over them. By the blood of Jesus, I nullify this dream and seal my destiny.

I overcome by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of my testimony (Revelation 12:11). I declare: I am free, I am protected, and I walk in victory.

In Jesus’ mighty name, Amen.
