Song: Peace of God Cover Me – with Lyrics
OPENING (2â3 minutes)
Peace sets my pace.
Over the past weeks, weâve spoken often about peace:
returning to peace,
choosing peace,
allowing peace to guide us.
Let me ask you something, donât answer out loud yet.
Â
What kind of peace are you actually living from?
Because not all peace comes from the same source.
There is a kind of peace that comes from relief, when pressure lifts.
There is a kind of peace that comes when circumstances improve.
And there is a kind of peace that comes from avoiding what feels hard or uncertain.
As you hear those, notice quietly, which one are you most familiar with?
Â
But Scripture speaks of another kind of peace.
A peace that remains even when nothing is resolved yet.
A peace that stays when clarity has not arrived.
A peace that does not disappear when pressure increases.
This peace doesnât come from having answers.
It doesnât come from figuring everything out.
It doesnât come from being in control.
It comes from relationship (Trust, Staying, Yielding)
And this matters, because many of us feel peace,
but still feel pushed inside (from pressure, urgency, striving).
Â
We feel calm for a moment,
but keep trying to manage everything ourselves.
Â
We feel peace, but donât let it lead us.
If that sounds familiar, just acknowledge it quietly before God. No fixing.
Â
So today, we are not talking about peace as a feeling to achieve
or a state to maintain.
We are talking about peace as something meant to govern.
Not just to reassure us, but to rule within us.
Scripture tells us in Philippians 4:7:
âThe peace of God, which surpasses all understanding,
will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.â
Â
Notice, it does not say peace comes after understanding.
It says peace surpasses it.
Which means peace can be present before clarity arrives.
Â
This is the kind of peace we are anchoring into today.
Not peace as relief.
Not peace as avoidance.
But peace as the fruit of walking in living relationship with God.
Because when peace flows from relationship,
it does more than calm us, it leads us.
WHAT TRUE PEACE ISÂ
If peace truly flows from relationship, then we need to understand what Scripture means when it speaks about peace, not as a concept, but as a lived reality in Christ.
Scripture says in Philippians 4:7:
âThe peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.â
Notice what the verse does not say.
It does not say peace comes from understanding.
Letâs pause here, has anyone ever had peace without answers?
Â
True peace is not the reward of things making sense.
True peace is the fruit of being held in relationship.
When peace flows from relationship:
- it can exist alongside uncertainty
- it does not need explanation
- it guards the inner life even when the outer life is unresolved
Quietly ask yourself:
âDo I usually wait for clarity before I let peace settle?â
Â
PEACE IS MEANT TO GOVERNÂ
Scripture doesnât stop at telling us what peace is.
It shows us what peace is meant to do.
âLet the peace of God rule in your hearts.â
Colossians 3:15
That word rule means:
- to decide
- to arbitrate
- to govern
So peace is not meant to sit beside us.
Peace is meant to lead us.
Let me ask gently:
When itâs time to decide, do you follow peace, or do you push ahead anyway?
Â
True peace does not say,
âEverything will be okay.â
True peace says,
âLet Me decide the direction now.â
TRUST, NOT CERTAINTYÂ
Hereâs where many of us feel the tension.
We may sense peace, but trusting it enough to let it lead is another matter.
âYou will keep him in perfect peace,
whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.â
Isaiah 26:3
Peace comes from trust, not answers, so when we hesitate, it doesnât mean rebellion, it means trust is still growing.
If thatâs you, there is no condemnation here.
The Holy Spirit is patient, and inviting you deeper.
RELATIONSHIP-BASED PEACE KEEPS YOU CONNECTEDÂ
Peace rooted in relationship keeps us connected, not distant.
It doesnât silence Godâs voice, it keeps us listening for it.
Jesus said:
âMy sheep hear My voice⌠and they follow Me.â
John 10:27
True peace helps us slow down and listen.
False peace pushes us to hurry and be done.
Notice this:
Does peace in your life slow you down, or push you to finish quickly?
Â
âHe who believes will not act hastily.â
Isaiah 28:16
True peace removes urgency, not responsibility.
PEACE REMOVES PRESSURE, NOT OBEDIENCEÂ
Peace doesnât stop us from obeying.
It helps us obey calmly.
âIn quietness and confidence shall be your strength.â Isaiah 30:15
Being calm isnât avoiding the problem.
Being confident isnât trying to control everything.
Ask yourself honestly:
âWhat kind of obedience do I usually offer, pressured or peaceful?â
Â
PEACE REVEALS WHO IS GOVERNINGÂ
And this is where peace quietly reveals something important, it shows us who is actually governing our inner life.
âAs many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God.â
Romans 8:14
If peace is there but not leading, God is with us, but not in charge.
Peace matures when it moves from:
sensed â trusted â yielded â governing
Where would you say peace is for you right now?
(No answer neededâjust notice.)
WHAT TRUE PEACE LOOKS LIKE IN DAILY LIFEÂ
When peace is leading, you can see it in how you live.
It begins to show up in the ordinary moments of daily life.
True peace:
- slows your internal pace
- simplifies your language
- quiets inner arguments
- allows waiting without anxiety
If you had to choose one phrase that describes peace for you today, what would it be?
Â
INVITATION
Letâs pause.
Not to fix anything.
Not to decide anything.
Just to notice.
Quietly ask the Holy Spirit:
âWhere have I sensed peace, but continued to manage?â
Peace does not accuse.
Peace invites.
Let us prayÂ
Holy Spirit, we acknowledge that true peace flows from walking with You.
We release control.
We release the need for certainty.
We choose trust over management.
Let Your peace rule in our hearts
not advise us, but govern us.
Teach us to live led, not driven.
Settled, not striving.
Relational, not reactive.
We receive Your peace, not as a feeling,
but as Your leadership within us.
In Jesusâ name. Amen.
CLOSING ANCHOR
